Kent and Sussex stargazers have the chance to see a rare astronomical event this month as Mercury moves across the face of the sun.
The smallest planet in the solar system is set to pass directly between the earth and the sun between 12:12pm and 7:42pm on Monday, May 9.
Transits occur when the orbits of Earth and Mercury line up, which only happen in May or November.
Mercury completes each orbit around the sun every 88 days and passes between the earth and the sun every 116 days.
