Tens of thousands of potholes across Kent and Sussex need to be repaired in the next few months as spring arrives.
Despite a mild winter, motorists and cyclists are complaining about the state of the highways.
But both Kent County Council and East Sussex County Council have pledged to deal with emergency repairs in hours, while less serious work might take longer to complete.
